Fireplaces

Places with cold climates such as countries in the northern hemisphere normally use a fireplace to keep the house interiors comfortably warm during winter months. Fireplaces are part of the house design and built-in during house construction. It can also be use for cooking purposes but the main use of a fireplace is keeping the house occupants warm. It is often the place where people love to congregate and converse. A well-built fireplace has a chimney built above it to draw the smoke out to the outdoors. Traditional fireplaces use wood, coal or peat while modern ones utilize cleaner natural gas and even electricity. An ordinary fireplace has a grate or iron grills over the front portion for safety. A mantelpiece or known as chimney-piece can be added for decorative purposes.
