Floors and Stairs
Floors are basically what we step on while we are in a room. Often, floors are made beneath another floor on the bottom. While flooring means the act of installing a covering over the room’s bottom surface, floor covering is the term used for the finished material applied to cover over a floor.
Floor
Floors can be classified according to its construction. They are: Ground floor construction- this is prepared by grading the base material to make it flat and then spreading a layer of sand and gravel to give more support for a building; and, Upper floor construction – are used by wood frame homes which are usually constructed with joists that are centred between 16 inches or 40 centimetres apart. This is in accordance with most building codes.
On the Floor
Likewise, special floor constructions are like floating floors that are laid upon another floor. They are used for different purposes such as:
- Balcony
- Floating Floor
- Glass Floor
- Nightingale Floor
- Raised Floor
- Sprung Floor
On the other hand, another important feature of a home’s interior is the stairs. But unlike floors, stairs provide a wide avenue for the designer to make innovations. An attractive set of stairs is an invitation to ascend, which suggests all kinds of interesting features of the home above. It fills an individual with the zeal of an explorer for the instinctive love of the unknown.
Thus, the choice of the type and style of stairs should be well thought out to bring the best out of your homes.
