Windows and Skylights

The eyes are the windows to a human’s soul. Curious. But what are windows? A window in a dictionary-based definition is an opening of a closed, generally solid surface and of which the primary purpose is to let into the room, light. Windows are usually made up of a translucent and/or transparent material like glass.

A window also can be used to improve ventilation of close room since when opened air freely goes in and out.

There are a lot of different types of windows used worldwide. Most designs are based on the purpose of letting in light and fresh air, some designs only lets in light since its designed to be permanently close, while some designs do not at all display any manifestations of these purposes and instead are clearly used as decorations portraying artful mosaics, pictures, and scenes, with the use of a material called stained glass or colored glass. Churches of the Catholic Christians commonly use this type of window design, using them to depict biblical scenes and highlights. See image below for an example.

Window Sky Ceiling

A skylight on the other hand can be thought of also as a window, but a window that is not mounted on a wall or vertical surface as where normally a window should be located, but it is a window place on a roof surface through the ceiling if any. This structural modification of the norm is developed to utilize better the light offered by outdoor sources such as the sun and the sky. Skylights are splendid alternatives to windows for lighting purposes. And with its unique and sophisticated look serves a great addition to the style and design of any structural building.
